When the LORD finds you covered in the filth of the birthing process of this carnal world and washes you clean with His Word and covers you with His Robe of Righteousness and gives you His Mantle of Purpose, you are no longer your own. However, you do remain with a choice of how to respond to His loving overture to come as you are and be made a Fisher of Men.
You can say no and walk away in mediocrity of a life never lived.
You can say yes and live in mediocrity despite the High Calling of God in Christ.
Or, you can respond in righteousness, accuracy and depart from what you thought you knew, drop your righteousness, strength, purpose and wisdom for the extraordinary exchange Jesus seeks to make with man. Your meaningless existence without Him, for an exceptional life lived out to its fullness in and because of Christ, the King.
In the excitement and emotion of the moment you may accept the invitation given with your wildly beating heart. Chuffed at the opportunity to serve the Risen King of all kings. And duly noted, you will embark upon a course of events that will transform your carnal, unremarkable life into something of excellence and of beauty untold. But you will not recognise it. At first, you will think that God is out to kill you, because He will take away everything that you recognise as good, acceptable and perfect and give you what truly is all those things and then more, just in a package that you do not recognise.
At this point, you will have a choice. To continue on this exceedingly, abundantly, above all you could ask or think narrowing pathway that leads to life or to choose the death of the soul.
The exacting standards of Kingdom Righteousness that you are seeking have found you. Will you choose the world, and all its riches and wealth – or will you, like Moses, choose to live in suffering with God’s people, living and walking out the path God has chosen for you in the barren wilderness, which men will never fail to misunderstand and criticize until you question your very sanity?
You see, friend, this walk you have chosen is no light thing. The preachers of this world have it right when they say at weddings of the world that ‘the choice of marriage is not one that should be lightly taken’, only they didn’t tell you that God, when He speaks of marriage, speaks of Christ and His Called Out Ones. His Select Few Warriors of Wisdom, Light and Purpose, united with their Risen King, Who has finally come to take what’s His from this World.
It costs you, everything. But it’s an unfair exchange. God gives you His Soul in exchange for your tattered, battered ruins and hopeless, meaningless desires and plans. You get beauty instead of burnt and completely consumed remains, the oil of gladness in exchange for meaningless grieving over the nothingness that men cry out for, and the garment of the ability to see and appreciate the God Most High and Praise Him with your entirety of being in trade for a spirit that has kept you weary and worn down with heaviness and unrighteousness.
Christ the King is Risen Upon you, beloved, for the purpose of exchanging real, abundant, unending, beautiful Life – for what you hold most dear to your soul which, as you soon discover is really just dung. What does it indeed profit a man, that he should gain the whole world, and lose his soul?
For eons, God has searched out the hearts of men, looking for that someone who will willingly, like Jesus Christ did, lay it all down for His sake alone. Give everything, body, soul, spirit, so that God can have in that person, all the room He requires to do something spectacular, without backtalk and whining and griping and attempts to hold on to what was at the same time as what is. Philippians 2:5-11 is not child’s play. Jesus was given the Name that is above every other name because of what He gave to His Father. And what He gave to His Father was Christ the King, the Most Holy, Anointed, Everlasting …as the Lamb. Slain. For years it has fascinated me that God would walk as a man. God would suffer the indignity of having His bottom wiped, being breastfed, being told what to do by men. The One in Revelation 1:8 as well as 10-18, born in a manger, gave His beard to be plucked, His side to be pierced by men. Jesus. Did. This. So that you wouldn’t have to miss out on His eternal plan and purpose for you. And for a little while, all that He asks, all that He requires is that you die to all that you know and take up your cross and follow Him.
It blows my mind that Jesus did this, because, being the Alpha and the Omega, in whom all things move, live and have their being… He had to know that you’d rather sleep than tarry a while with Him. That you’d argue with Him about wanting a better house to live in than the one He wants you to live in, where He can do the greatest work in and through you.. same goes for job, spouse, child, parent, finances, health, marriage etc.
Today I’m weeping because He gave Himself so completely… for such a selfish people.
I’m weeping because before He left He said that the Harvest is ready… but so many people perish without Him because His labourers are few. Unwilling to pay the price of a temporary discomfort for a God Who has been crying out for thousands of years, “Where are you?”. And the answers He’s getting today? “I have married a wife, I have bought me a cow, I have fields and commitments that cost a pretty sum, so pray me excused… I cannot come.” (Luke 14:15-24)
That’s the reason why God always ends up with the riff raff, the rejects, the unwanted ones. He has to send out into the byways, the side streets, the alleys for the ones overlooked, who like Magdalene, will give an offering of their lives that is fitting, because my dear, they remember the hole from which they were dug and they remain thankful for the price of that cross. They are not lifted high in their own eyes by the mountain of their giftings and overcome by the power that they carry. They remain humbled at the feet of Christ, the King, who paid the ultimate price on a wooden Roman Cross. The Alpha and the Omega. They remember something you and I always have to keep in mind… they didn’t deserve it. Jesus did it because He was asked. Heaven’s first pick said yes. It’s a good thing He did because, He was our only hope.
Well, now God has placed His hope in you, to help keep a promise that He made to His Son that He will make His enemies His footstool.
What will your response be?
The thing about you is this, and even twins know this, there’s no one else like you. You are uniquely designed and have uniquely journeyed through time to get to this moment, this place in time for a specific purpose. To serve Him alone.
The upward call of God, in Christ.
There are so many things I wanted to be, wanted to do with my life, places to go, things to see. Even before I admitted that God was real, I had the experience of certain doors slamming in my face and certain others flying wide open, to the point that one day, the God-denier that I was said to someone, “I didn’t get here by my own hand, it’s as if someone or something has been directing my life up until this point.” A year and a half later, when God had confirmed (indubitably) His glorious existence, and embraced me in Himself, I began to look back at my journey and to realise just how accurate I had been.
The question was, and still remains, what would I and will I do with Jesus Christ and this amazing gift He Is?
This question never leaves any believer, not for the rest of your days.
You see, my darling, we layer choice after choice, upon choice and yet more choice. The journey is to die and grow and die and grow (that’s we seeds for you). It involves some serious pruning and correction along the way and it’s easy to give in to dismay, when we forget Whose we are and Who we serve… and most especially, when we forget that it IS a journey after all. For the rest of our days.
The promise of Eternal Life (knowing God intimately John 17:3) and being united with Him as One, forever is one of the greatest motivators, and the delight of a Father reunited with His young ones, enough to keep the faintest ember going just a little while longer.
Just remember, while you cherish the sound of His Voice in your ear, and His hand upon your life… there are those who have never ever had the opportunity to meet Him and know Him like you do. Jesus Christ was ripped apart, a veil torn in two, in order for you to have the privilege of reuniting with your Divine Family. You’ve received an invitation now to go like HE did and do like HE did, and greater than He did.
So, what’s it going to be?
It’s the last leg. The day is far spent. Will you tarry (stay in a given place/state/expectancy) a while and watch (be vigilant)?
